Weary Shinigami the Death dropped a notebook in the human world where a weary genius picked it up. “The human whose name is written in this note shall die” it said… It was the notebook that determined people’s death. Light Yagami, an extremely bright elite university student who possess this ultimate tool that could remain only in the hands of God. Light decides to create an ideal world and begins to hold the scales to judge the criminals in his discretion. Meanwhile, ICPO International Criminal Police Organisation) has placed a mysterious detective called “L” in Japanese police to force to investigate a series of the criminal cases. “L” in the status of a divinity for his capacity and skill in gathering information and in reasoning has solved unresolved cases in the world, and now tightens the investigative screw over these cases, but Light also cleverly manipulating the notebook of death, tosses and shakes the investigation. The future of mankind is at the mercy of crucial and fierce battles of the two brains.

- This is movie base on the Japanese Anime on the same name? The special effects is not as good as the Hollywood but the plot is engaging. The battle of the wits between both genius are fantastic.

Oh, regarding the newspaper mentioned about the special preview of next episode after the credit is somehow shown BEFORE the credits in SHAW Cinemas in Jurong East…not sure if it’s intended…but it did make a bad ending ….or plain bad editing…maybe the movie operator wants to save time for cleaning the cinemas…so cut and paste!

Well…it’ makes a good 3.5 stars out of 5

Departed(M18) (English) (M18)

The Departed is set in South Boston, where the state police force is waging war on organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Costello (Jack Nicholson). While Billy is quickly gaining Costello’s confidence, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that there’s a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy – and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself.

- Based on the Hong Kong version “ Infernal Affairswhich made a top grossing trilogy…base on the past and middle events of the Infernal Affairs main characters. This movie made great changes to suit the western audiences more…and a great touch up on the ending… ^_^

The acting is top notch and I like the foul mouth police man that makes me laugh haaa…the violence is excellent…a nice touch here and there on the gangsters differences compared to the Hong Kong Triads…

I can safely give this movie a top 4 stars out of 5 a must watch!

Silk (Mandarin) (PG)

A team of scientists led by Hashimoto has managed to capture the energy of a ghost child, thanks to their newly invented device called Menger Sponge. The child, isolated in an empty flat, moves his lips to words no one understands. Hashimoto enlists special agent Ye Qi-Dong, who is able to read on lips, in order to figure out how this child can shed light on life…and especially life after death…

- This movie is able to scare you but also intrigue your senses… The whole concept is unique and mysterious regarding the whole plot…and the final twist makes it worth the price of the ticket…haa

The mixture of languages between Japanese and Chinese and plot makes it interesting to look at it… It’s not that scary compared to “The EYE” but it’s interesting theory behind all the life after death thingy.

Those who saw it might learn more about life and death…and the true concept…? Oh…the movie also touch something that will only appear in science fiction…. anti-gravity!@?

Since I am a horror and sci-fi fans…

I personally give it 4.5 Stars out of 5

World Trade Center (English) (PG)

Only 20 people were rescued alive from the World Trade Center after the collapse of the buildings. Officer Jimeno and Sgt. McLoughlin were the 18th and 19th. Academy Award®-winning director Oliver Stone tells the true story of the heroic survival and rescue of two Port Authority policemen – John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno – who were trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, after they went in to help people escape. The film also follows their families as they try to find out what happened to them, as well as the rescuers who found them in the debris field and pulled them out. Their story shows how the best in people rose above the tragic events of that day.

- This is a tribute movie that might not be favorite to all… The whole event seems so surreal and just thinking that it had happened and personally saw the 2nd plane slammed into the 2nd tower ..on TV Live….makes this an unforgettable movie.

Some who had not experience the event or just read about it long after it happened might not realised what is all the fuss is about…and even complain that the movie is boring..haa

To me it’s a average movie that normally don’t need to view another time…haa…

Sinking Of Japan (PG) (Japanese)

Based on a blockbuster 1973 novel by Sakyo Komatsu, it follows the horrible events that occur when it is revealed that the island nation of Japan is sinking into the ocean. Earthquakes, tidal waves and volcanic eruptions roil the country, leaving millions dead and stranded. Japan’s only hope lies with one plan and one man.

- This movie is not an action packed movie but instead a moving love story that have little chemistry but works only because of sacrifices. The acting of the characters are “stony” or “zoned out” but tried their best, plot is expected but who can blame them making a predictable story.

The effects looks like a documentary effects and does not excite me…maybe just shock me that most of the people looks very calm…hmm

Things normally won’t happen…in real life
1. Walk slowly without mask in a street when the huge amount of toxic volcano ashes is falling around…
2. Carry a lot of food through the disaster area without any problem.
3. Stay calm when millions of people are going to die or had died because of your decision.
4. Can keep a secret even thou it’s evident around you
The whole movie left me strangely dumbfounded and realised the movie is not about heroics, actions, exciting escapes, explosion, destruction or death but a love drama that have dilemma that they need to sort out…before Japan Sinks…haa

It’s watchable…but not enough wow factor to let me see it again.
